So what do you think would happen if MSN/Live and Yahoo merged?
I'm currently ranking somewhat acceptable on MSN/Live but not on Yahoo. As far as I understand, Yahoo gives more importance to the amount of backlinks you get, no matter the quality of them. Nonetheless, I get very little traffic from live.com - it looks like it's used by faaaar way a smaller crowd.
If the merge happened.. would anything improve SEO wise?
what are your thoughts?
Thanks!

I doupt they would merge them at all.. they would keep yahoo running as yahoo but have their copyright etc on it.. afterall, yahoo has allways been more successful.. why screw with it.

I'm just picturing MSN programmers cracking laughs once they gain power on yahoo's internal search algorithm. And then going like 'this needs a change here, that needs a change there..'
It may keep the name, but not sure it's going to work the same way.

...[Microsoft] is planning a new release this spring of its Live search product, code-named Rome.

The merger offer if accepted by Yahoo! may survive regulatory inquiries only for reason of G00Gs 58% market share. However, the aim seems to be advertising share and profit. Whether the dismal state of search will be improved remains to be determined.

...[The] questions that Google raised about Microsoft are similar to those that European regulators are mulling in evaluating Google?s proposed acquisition of online display advertising specialist, DoubleClick. U.S. regulators approved the deal late last year, but the European Commission has yet to decide and has expressed concerns about possible anti-competitive aspects of the deal. The commission is expected to weigh in by early April. ...

Hi
I will have to eat my words if this merger happens, but i would bet good money on it never happening (at least not in the forseable future)
This is purely a corporate tacktic by MSN to offer an amount way under what Yahoo is perceived to be worth. This pushes up Micrisoft share values (and also Yahoo). Hence both companies make billions without spending a penny.
In order for yahoo to agree to the sale Microsoft would have to make a very silly offer (although i agree they are capable of this, i dont see it happening as Google already are the big boys so this trying to compete with the real big boy could hurt MSN and Yahoo share prices if they can not compete or beat google)

It seems officially dead now. Two large institutional shareholders wanted wanted $1 per share over Microsoft's offer. A hostile bid war seems unlikely. Yahoo's stock share is expected to fall when trading resumes Monday.
I think the stock speculators may have made some money from all this and now they will be scurrying to close their position.
